• Budget:

Whether you are having a ring made from scratch or incorporating heritage stones into a new design, please keep in mind your desired budget and inform us so we can source stones and metals within that price range.

• Metal:

When selecting the metal for a ring, begin by choosing between yellow or white and then decide on the carat. A 9-carat will be less expensive than an 18-carat, but the colour will vary. For a white metal, consider the durability of platinum, and bear in mind that white gold may need rhodium plating to maintain its bright white finish. Silver is an option, but its softness and lack of durability may present challenges. Titanium tungsten rings are not offered as they cannot be resized

• Stones:

Which gemstones would you prefer to set into your selected metal? Choose from Diamonds, Sapphires, Rubies, or Emeralds. We can also set stones from heritage pieces into new settings, preserving the blend of modernity and tradition for the next generation to cherish. If you are interested in semi-precious stones, Clive has an extensive array in stock, and we have a stone dealer if we do not have what you require.

• Style:

When considering ring styles, you have several options:

Whether it is a minimalist, glamourous or vintage style our goldsmith can guide you through the process. We can source stones from our stone dealers, (we only work with those who are conflict free). Choose from a wide variety including:

• Asscher
• Marquise
• Oval
• Pear
• Round
• Baguette

When we have a few different stones to incorporate into a design the ‘bubble’ mixed stone ring can work exceptionally well.

• Setting:

Settings can be in either a 4 or 6 claw, rub over, bar, tiffany and many more. What you do for a living may affect your choice, hobbies may also be considered, do you need a hard-wearing setting and robust metal?

• Finger Size:

We measure your finger in store. If you are commissioning for someone else, try to find out their ring size but all commissions are resized as a complimentary service.

• Aftercare:

With nearly 50 years of experience and over a decade in our retail shop, we recommend bringing your rings in once a year to have the prongs checked. This ensures they are securely holding your stones. We are typically available from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday to Saturday. Please visit us during these hours. Additionally, consider insuring your valuable items. A valuation for insurance purposes an appraisal of a ring’s monetary worth based on current market conditions.

What is your timeline? We need time to source any components, a custom ring can take time to finish to a high quality, we will work with you on this, and Clive has been known to work well to a tight timeline.
