We can help you with both hand and machine engraving and guide you to which one is suitable for your requirements.

• Hand engraving can be done with either hand tools or a rotary tool to create unique designs of various depths.
• Machine engraving uses a laser to burn designs into a surface, and while the results are clean and precise, the cuts are often quite shallow.

We may be able to also offer seal engraving, a traditional method where a jewellery engraver hand-carves your design in reverse, allowing your signet ring to create a seal impression in wax or clay. This technique is often used to personalize a signet ring with a family crest or coat of arms. It is important to note that seal engraving is only possible through hand-engraving of a signet ring.

Alternatively, surface engraving, which involves carving or laser engraving your

design onto the surface of the ring, is the most popular choice for its simplicity. This method allows for various design options, including your family coat of arms, crest, initials (monogram), symbols, fingerprints, or even a hand-drawn design.

The Process Of Engraving

Hand engraving is a specialist skill. As these are precious items, we use Special Delivery which is approximately £20.00 P&P. If possible we wait to have a few jobs so that the cost can be shared.

The choice of where to engrave and the style of the font can be decided in store. We have examples for you choose from, or bring in a picture. A cost is given and paid in full and our normal time frame is just over a week.
